At E-Z Window Cleaning, safety is our top priority. That’s why we’re proud to participate in the National Safety Stand-Down to prevent falls, an important initiative led by OSHA to raise awareness about fall hazards and prevent tragic accidents in the workplace.
According to data from the Bureau of Labor Statistics, falls from elevation remain a leading cause of death for construction employees, accounting for a significant number of fatalities in the industry. However, these deaths are entirely preventable with the right safety measures in place.
But falls aren’t exclusive to the construction industry. They can happen in agriculture, manufacturing, transportation, window cleaning and any other industry that involves working from height. That’s why NSC and OSHA encourage workers in all industries to conduct a Stand-down. No company is too small to participate; roughly half of events nationwide are held by companies with 25 or fewer employees.
So, what exactly is a Safety Stand-Down?
It’s a voluntary event where employers take a break to talk directly to employees about safety, with a specific focus on fall hazards and prevention. This presents an opportunity for companies to reinforce safety protocols, discuss protective methods, and address any concerns or hazards that employees may encounter on the job.
As a proud partner of OSHA, E-Z Window Cleaning is committed to promoting safety and preventing falls. We’re joining forces with key organizations like the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH), the National Safety Council, and others to support this important initiative.
How can companies conduct a Safety Stand-Down?
A Safety Stand-Down can be a singular occasion or extended throughout the week with various fall-safety initiatives. Managers are urged to tailor the Stand-Down to suit their workplace needs:
• Conduct toolbox talks on ladder, scaffold, or roof safety.
• Perform safety inspections alongside employees.
• Create a rescue plan.
• Host training sessions.
• Screen safety videos.
