You can tell it’s fall when those orange little orbs start to appear. One minute it’s summer, the next – pumpkins everywhere! Now, in mid-October, we are in the thick of it. Pumpkins pop up on porches, on the reception desk at the office, and outside your local shops.
The jack-o-lanterns and the cute decorations have been happening for years. This isn’t really anything new. The more recent fad is the deluge of pumpkin and pumpkin-spice-flavored products that are also swarming the shelves as soon as Labor Day is past.
It started innocently enough with pumpkin-spice lattes at popular chain coffee joints. For those who didn’t want to spend $5 for a single serving of fall in a cup, pumpkin-spice flavored coffee creamers showed up soon after. Now you could bring your pumpkin-spice latte home! These beverages were followed by pumpkin pancakes, waffles, bagels, and other breakfast items. While this should have been a warning sign that this fad was about to go to far, we were instead lulled into a false sense of ease by these unassuming breakfast foods.
Seeing all of this success, companies started turning out pumpkin-flavored products and never looked back. Now, pumpkins truly are everywhere. You can find pumpkins in your:
- Yogurt
- Pretzels
- Cottage cheese
- Alcohol – including wine, beer, and even Jack Daniels!
- Peanut Butter
- Marshmallows
- Salsa
Worried about your pooch feeling left out of the pumpkin love? Don’t worry – they make “pumpkin everything” for dogs too! You can find plenty of dog treats and pet shampoo with pumpkin and pumpkin-spice flavors and scents.
So join us in celebrating the season by grabbing your favorite pumpkin-flavored whatever and cozying up with friends and family!
