When did you last let your best friend know how much they mean to you? Best friends are the ones who are always there for us. They know us better than we know ourselves, and they bring out the best in us! Today, June 8th, is Best Friends Day, an unofficial national holiday started to celebrate the importance of best friends.
According to popular belief, this holiday started in Richmond, Virginia in 2002, when a group of artists and musicians (who also happened to be best friends) planned a celebration of friendship at a local waterpark. They invited everyone they could think of and threw quite the party! Year after year, the celebration and its reach has grown into what is now National Best Friends Day all across the country.
